Tenzi Game Review Round-Up

Awhile back we asked several members of our Blog Team to review the Tenzi Dice Game and Tenzi Card Deck. Here’s what they had to say…

A Mom's Quest to Teach

Kristen says, "With so many different ways to play Tenzi, you can easily fill a game night with just two simple purchases: the Tenzi game and the card deck. On the evenings where we played Tenzi, we played at least six or more games and used the cards to shake up the rules." Read more...

Acorns ~ Nuggets of Gold

Lis says, "One of the things that I, as a mother, really appreciate is that it really can be a quick game (10 minutes?), for when you feel the need to break things up a bit in the school day, redirect a child, or fill somebody's love bucket with some fun attention, and my 9 year old enjoys playing and rolling all those dice!" Adventures in Homeschooling

Tawnee says, "Do you have students that need to practice addition or multiplication? have them roll their dice and find combinations of addition or multiplication with their numbers. I love this because you can have each student work differently while playing the same game.  Or give them 5 dice of one number and 5 dice of another number and tell them to come up with a number and then roll until they have it. Math practice with fun, colorful dice.

But what if you just want to play a family game and not have the kids running through math facts. Tenzi is STILL for you. There are just a million ways you can play with Tenzi dice." Read more...

Anyday Blessings

Karie says, "Do you know how many variations of games you can play with just 10 dice? Well, I can tell you there are at least 77. We haven’t played them all, but that is certainly our aim over the next school year….and beyond." Read more...

As They Grow Up

Samantha says, "Tenzi is great as a stand alone game, but adding the card deck makes it even more fun."

Big Family Blessings

Amanda says, "Tenzi is a fast-pasted dice game that can be played at nearly any age. And when I say any age I mean it! This is the one game almost all of my family can actually play together. Even 5 -year-old Emily understands and enjoys the game. And my two-year-old loves to choose his own set of dice to roll as we play. Even though he can’t follow the rules, he feels included and has a fun time." Read more...

Chasing Super Mom

Bekki says, "As a family of 6, it can sometimes be difficult to find a game that everyone enjoys. Even amongst our 4 children, it can be tricky to find games that are engaging and educational at each unique level. Tenzi fits the bill. I love having a game that can easily be adapted for different age/grade levels, is educational, AND fun!" Read more...

Cummins Life

Kathryn says: "This game is simple, fast and fun!  All my kids enjoy it and it's a game we like to play as a family... There are the regular games,  pattern games, non-speed games, and score-keeping games.  There are even a few blank cards so you can create your own version of TENZI!  We are still thinking about these but I have no doubt that my kids will come up with something unexpected and fun." Educational Roots

Farm Fresh Adventures

Lisa says, "I love it when we have game night at our house. We pop our popcorn and the boys squabble a bit before picking a game to play. With one of them 10 and the other 5, it can sometimes be hard for them to agree on a game EVERYONE will enjoy and be able to play by themselves. One of our most favorite games is a very popular dice game, however, Baby Britches always has to partner with someone because part of the game is adding up the dice which he isn't strong enough to do quickly on his own. Enter TENZI." Read more...

Flanders Family Homelife

Jennifer says, "Some board games are so involved, it takes hours to play them from start to finish. Not so, TENZI. Each round takes no more than 2-3 minutes, so you can play as little or as much as time allows and always be at a good 'stopping place' (if stop you must)." Read more...

Heather O'Steen Photography

Heather says, "Tenzi is one of those games that can be perfect for those times when you just want a fun family and friends game when you can be loud, have fun and not have to think too much.  It is also very versatile in that it can be a great educational tool as well!" Read more...

Homeschool Fanatic

Jennifer says, "It all started with two colleagues, a bag of dice and the simple goal, “Let’s come up with a dice game.” After a very short time, the fast-paced dice game, Tenzi was born. Tenzi is quick, easy to learn, and suitable for ages 7 to 97 – although I might would stretch that even more!" Homeschool Game School

Meg says, "I have to be totally honest, when I first broke out the Tenzi dice and we played a few rounds of standard Tenzi my husband & I both agreed that we didn’t enjoy the game. When we broke out the Tenzi Card Deck and everything changed, after each round we found ourselves saying “One more game…just one more…ok but only one more..just one more…” I wasn’t sure how my kids would feel about Tenzi since dice games aren’t their favorite, but the morning after game night found them at the table making up challenges for each other." Homeschool Happenings

Jennifer says, "This game is seriously fun!!! It is a great game for kids and adults. This would be a great game for youth events, parties, playdates, or anytime!" Read more...

Hopkins Homeschool

Amanda says, "This was such a fun game to play. We used this as a way to work on numbers for Little Miss. While they say that this is recommended for ages 7-97, Little Miss at 5 years old loved this game. She called this her math class on the days that we used it, and it was! This fun (learning) game was played almost every day. Having the extra cards helped to keep it interesting and fun!" Read more...

Ink Blots

Tifany says, "We had so much fun playing a variety of the Tenzi Card Deck games...much more fun than I thought we would have. There are versions which require more concentration (focusing on particular combinations of numbers) and versions which are just great for laughs (like "Piratezi", where you must roll keeping one eye closed and you must say "Arrrg" after each roll). There are even some ideas for games which do not involve speed (although most in the deck do involve an element of speed) and some additional blank cards for writing down your own Tenzi game versions." Just a Mom Trying to Make It Happen

Hilary says, "We really enjoyed this game and it was great for our homeschool day as a quick brain break but has quickly become one of our favorite games to play. While it doesn't require a lot of skill it does require attention to detail something my ADHD child struggles with. Some of the card challenges have also helped him with some coordination challenges we have been working on." Read more...

La Familia Foundation

Beatriz says, "Honestly, this game looks so simple, yet it is entertaining and different from any other game. Because it truly is a box of Dice. You are probably asking yourself what you can do with a box of Dice? This is what Tenzi is about, and if you get the extra cards, it brings more of different ways you can play this game. We have so much fun as a family playing." Read more...

Learning Curve

Josette says, "What we did was shuffle the deck of cards, and then played through the entire deck.   Most of the cards list fast games, but every now and then you get one that takes a little longer.   Even working through the entire deck it only took us about 45 minutes.  That 45 minutes was full of fun and laughter.  This is DEFINITELY one we're adding to the top 5 list for family game night." Learning Well Community

Alicia says, "I’m just going to be honest. Playing games is hard for my family. We are all highly competitive and somebody usually has to lose, which leaves at least one person in hysterics 14 minutes into the game. Sounds fun, right?

So when Timberdoodle asked me to review the famous dice game, Tenzi, for them, I was hesitant. I was intimidated by the piles of dice and small packaging, obviously meaning it was devoid of instructions. And I knew our family game history and the future didn’t look too bright.

But I said yes. And to my amazement, we played it and no one cried!" Read more...

Momz in the Know

Heather says, "How many times have you played the same game over and over with your kids? I am always on the lookout for new games to play with my kids and was excited to try out Tenzi and the Tenzi Card Deck from Timberdoodle. Tenzi is a super simple game but the beauty is that it can be played with numerous variations so it never really gets boring." Read more...

Munchkin Time

3 Reasons why you will love this game and 77 ways to play card deck:

  1. It is a fast game so there is no time to get bored.
  2. There are more than 77 ways to play this game, now how cool is that!
  3. It teaches your child about odd and even numbers – it is like playing and learning at the same time.

Roads to Everywhere

Karla says, "We set the deck face down in the middle of the table and before each hand, we would flip the top card over to find out what the goal was for that hand. Our favorites are the patterns, where you roll to get the numbers shown and then arrange your dice in that specific pattern. The way we played it was whoever won the hand got to keep the card and after we had played through the deck whoever had the most cards was the winner." Read more...

So Every Day

Lacey says, "Here are several ways that I knew Tenzi was a keeper in our home:

  1.  I packed this as one of the only games that we took across country to the dude ranch with us.
  2.  At Lost Valley Ranch, the kids actually played this game with some of their new friends.
  3.  When we are home and friends come to visit, this game comes off the shelf.
  4.  Grown ups and kids say “yes” to playing without any of the eye rolling and self talk that comes with agreeing to play such games as Risk and Monopoly."
