Meet Angie of Mississippi

Hi, we’re a family of 5. Our hobbies are painting and making music. We have a pet cat named Garfield and we call him “G” for short.

How do you Timberdoodle?

I haven’t purchased Timberdoodle yet. I am very impressed with the quality and standards of Timberdoodle. I’ve looked at the catalog I received in the mail and I was so excited and impressed with everything. I love how Timberdoodle is basically a one stop shop for everything homeschool and education.

Tell us about a typical school day at your house.

We normally start around lunch time which is between 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. After we start we typically start with play, story time, and coloring. After that, we’ll alternate between reading and math.

If we peeked inside your home on a random Wednesday afternoon, what would we see?

You would probably see the kids running and playing.

If you could take your family anywhere you wanted for vacation where would you go?

Hmmm.... I would love to visit Egypt or Italy.

What books have you read over and over?

The Bible.

What dietary challenges does your family face?

Picky eaters. It’s challenging because I have to cook meals that everyone likes or meals that I can modify for my picky eater.

What tips do you have for surviving a hard day?

Take a 5 minute break to just breathe and relax your mind. And focus on one thing at a time. Do your best and don’t over stress.

What’s something your child has done that thrilled your soul?

Draw me a picture and give me a hug and kiss.

How does your family celebrate birthdays?

Together as a family.

What have you done recently for the first time?

Hiking.

What’s your favorite school day lunch?

Peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

How would you manage if you had to homeschool without the internet?

I believe it maybe a challenge because I like to google questions and how to explain certain concepts that I want to introduce to my children. But honestly, I could do without it. We’ll just visit the library more and I could always find a teacher friend or family member that could help me figure out how to explain certain concepts to my kids in a way that they could understand.

What tips do you have for other families?

Never underestimate the importance of spending quality time together. Spend at least 10-15 minutes of one-on-one play time with your children doing something that they want to do. They’ll feel loved and you’ll satisfy their inner desire to spend alone time with their parent.

What is something you appreciate about each of your kids?

Their kindness and how they appreciate the smaller things in life that adults may not view as important.

What song is currently in your head?

Old Town Road. I can’t stand it!

Tell us about your family’s favorite games.

Video games. We love playing video games together as a family our favorite games are the Mario games.

What is your exercise routine and how often do you do it?

I love doing High Intensity Interval Training. It’s very effective with burning belly fat for me. Which is a huge problem I have. I try to perform this exercise for at least 10 minutes Monday through Friday.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever done in your homeschool that you called a “science experiment”?

Hmmm...I tried to make fireworks in a jar using oil, water and food coloring. It was a total fail! The reviews on this experiment led me to believe that it’ll be so cool and the kids would love it. It was not!

What hard thing are you planning to do this year?

Lose weight! LOL.

What did you do just for fun with your kids recently?

Jump on the trampoline and race!

What would you name your boat if you had one?

Queen Bee. 🐝

If you could learn a new skill, what would it be?

Sewing and surfing!

What’s the last recipe you looked up?

Original Rice Krispies Treat recipe. They came out delicious!

Charlotte Mason with a mix of Waldorf with a few splashes of traditional.

I like to read and watch YouTube videos!

What’s your favorite school day breakfast?

I love eating sausage and biscuits with grape jelly 🍇.

What’s the best homeschool field trip you’ve ever been on?

We just started homeschool so we the best trip we’ve had so far was to the park.

The grocery store cashier asks, “But what about socialization?” What do you say?

I would explain to them that going to public or private school isn’t the only way to socialize. Kids can socialize at a park or in extracurricular activities.

What’s the funniest thing one of your kids ever said?

My daughter did an Arnold Schwarzenegger impression and said “Daddy, I’m going to kill the bug”. Trust me, it was so hilarious!!

What do you do for fun as a family?

Play outside!

How do you continue to educate yourself?

I like to read different books of topics I’m interested in at that time.

What are favorite healthy snacks at your house?

Fruit and trail mix.

What’s the best museum you’ve ever gone to?

The Hershey’s Chocolate Museum in Detroit, Michigan.

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve overcome in homeschooling?

Getting my children to love learning!

What is your favorite thing about having kids?

Having someone that depends on you and loves you unconditionally!

What’s the best vacation you have ever taken as a family?

Going to Georgia!

What frivolous thing are you enjoying right now?

We’re enjoying reading Wreck It Ralph!

What’s your favorite in-a-pinch dinner option?

Hamburgers or spaghetti.

Music and art.

What’s making you laugh these days?

My kids, because they’re so funny and silly and I love it!

What do you do for P.E. in your homeschool?

We just play outside for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour.
