Kristy: I heard about Timberdoodle from my sister. We love All About Reading and All About Spelling. We use them every day as part of our homeschool curriculum.

Summer: Love the PreK curriculum which I stumbled on two years ago

Tell us about a typical school day at your house.

Ashleigh: Start at 9:00. We have free time and tracing and learning to write. We have lunch every day at 12:00.

Mandy: We are usually on a slow start :). We start our day at about 9:00 a.m. Breakfasts and getting into the swing of things, then we do school for a couple of hours. After that it is playtime!

Kristy: We start around 9:30. We cover math, typing, reading, spelling, grammar, writing, handwriting, history, and science. He finishes chores before we start school.

Summer: Just kinda play it by ear, not huge schedule followers.

If we peeked inside your home on a random Wednesday afternoon, what would we see?

Ashleigh: A dog. And my family and my kids learning.

Mandy: Connor fishing off the back of the boat.

Kristy: You’d probably see my son practicing his karate, final preparations for his presentation for co-op, and snack time.

Summer: Chaos and happy kids

If you could take your family anywhere you wanted for vacation where would you go?

Ashleigh: To the beach at Destin.

Mandy: On a road trip between Canada and USA.

Kristy: We’d travel to National Parks.

What books have you read over and over?

Mandy: The Magic Chair

Kristy: Teaching From Rest

What dietary challenges does your family face?

Kristy: Sensitivity to food dye. We avoid it completely.

What tips do you have for surviving a hard day?

Mandy: Ending the day with a bit of meditation to relax the mind.

Kristy: Pray, text a friend

What’s something your child has done that thrilled your soul?

Mandy: Writing me sweet and loving notes, and breakfast (toast) in bed!

Kristy: He’s been working so hard lately. He’s been doing a great job on his schoolwork and karate.

How does your family celebrate birthdays?

Mandy: We love to do experiences for birthdays, instead of just "gifts". Family experiences are worth more in memories than gifts that get outgrown.

Kristy: Lots of cake, the birthday person’s favorite meals, presents

What’s your favorite school day lunch?

Mandy: 2-minute nooodles

Kristy: Leftovers

How would you manage if you had to homeschool without the internet?

Mandy: Lots and lots of books and printed worksheets.

Kristy: We use Teaching Textbooks and an online typing program, so we’d have to get a version that doesn’t require the internet. Otherwise, we’d be fine.

What tips do you have for other families?

Mandy: Stay strong!

Kristy: Find community. We’re so thankful for our co-op. We can gain wisdom from those further in the journey and support from others when we have tough days.

What is something you appreciate about each of your kids?
