Meet 3 Families from Michigan

Melissa of Michigan

There are three people in our family - a girl and her parents. One is a librarian and the other is a project manager. We have a golden retriever.

Christina of Michigan

We are a family of 4 with no pets.

Amanda of Michigan

My name is Amanda. I have two children, 14 and 3.

How do you Timberdoodle?

Melissa: We started using Timberdoodle curriculum pieces last year - history, spelling, and science. This year we are went all in with the 3rd grade curriculum. We love all of it!

Christina: I learned of Timberdoodle on a homeschool curriculum site. Our favorite items tend to be the board game type products. We use Timberdoodle items as a supplement to a public school education.

Amanda: We are new. I am wanting to try.

Tell us about a typical school day at your house.

Melissa: School hours at our house from roughly 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. We spend the morning on math and language arts and rotate afternoons with history, science, art and etc.

Christina: We use the items whenever we have extended time from school or when the kids need assistance/want to do more.

Amanda: I work with oldest who is in public school and work with 3-year-old daily and I own a licensed daycare.

If we peeked inside your home on a random Wednesday afternoon, what would we see?

Melissa: On Wednesdays we are usually doing Spanish and Scratch Coding. We also do a lesson in the Critical & Creative book.

Christina: Since we supplement a public school our school age child is at school and our preschool age would be at her activities away from home.

Amanda: A mess. I would be cleaning up and waiting for parents to come and the kiddos would be playing a game.

If you could take your family anywhere you wanted for vacation where would you go?

Melissa: Italy.

Christina: The kids want to go to Disney.

What books have you read over and over?

Melissa: Little Women

Christina: Click Clack Moo, Jigsaw Jones books

What tips do you have for surviving a hard day?

Melissa: Breathing. Taking a 5 minute break. Going for a walk.

Christina: Do one thing at a time and if something doesn't get done it can be done the next time.

What’s something your child has done that thrilled your soul?

Melissa: Sends letters to friends. She’s super kind to all the dogs in our neighborhood. When she tries something new, even when she’s unsure.

How does your family celebrate birthdays?

Melissa: Special breakfast at our local diner. Day dedicated to that person - we do what makes that person happy. Gifts, of course.

Christina: We usually have dinner and cupcakes with grandparents.
