Test Prep: Grade 5

Home-taught children who are not prepared for their yearly standardized tests are at a distinct disadvantage from the government- and privately-taught children.

If you reside in a state that requires standardized tests, you should know that most certified teachers teach with the test in mind. In other words, teachers understand the types of questions that will appear on the standardized tests, and they will spend weeks preceding the tests covering the necessary information. If you do not do likewise, your children stand a chance of performing poorly in comparison.

For those of us in a state where some form of testing is required but never scrutinized, preparing is not as critical. However, some of you are in states where the test results are not only analyzed but used as a basis for whether you may continue to home educate. Why not ensure your children are "playing on a level playing field"? The Test Prep series offers students the essential groundwork to prepare for standardized tests.

Based on subject areas covered by most state standardized tests, these colorful, inviting workbooks provide a good sampling of all the skills required for each grade level. Practice pages, strategies, tips, and full-length practice tests build test-taking confidence and skills in reading comprehension, vocabulary, language, and math. The test tips are beneficial, and the information and instructions are super-easy to follow.

Developed by a leading educational publisher, Harcourt's Test Prep provides a great opportunity for children to review before taking standardized state tests. Engaging, practical, and easy to use, Test Prep will help your children face the tests with the same confidence that their peers will have.

    Great little tool

I like using this tool each year. It helps my daughter learn how to take tests when the time comes that she has to take one. Helps with learning how to listen to detailed instruction and it helps me to know if there is a subject that we need to go back and cover in more detail once she has taken the tests.

    Great Workbook

It is an excellent resource for instructing testing techniques, particularly in a home setting where such practices may not typically be emphasized.

Great workbook that teaches testing skills

This is our second year using this series. It's been great showing what my kids know and what we don't. It also teaches them valuable test taking skills.

    Great prep study

This is great for teaching how to do testing when we might not normally do it at home. With a 5th grader maybe going back into public for middle school I love that he'll be covered for knowing how to handle tests. Also, it helps with following directions properly and little tips and tricks to do better.

    Makes test taking less scary

We just started using this and I honestly had never done anything like it for my kids. They've never had any standardized tests but I thought it would be a good tool to measure their skills according to the grade level they're on. It has been a good experience for my fifth grader. I like how it is broken down into sections and he can work on each at a time.
