Nomadic Professor: US History 1 & 2
The Nomadic Professor US1 & US2 is an exciting departure from the typical history textbook for high schoolers. Fascinating onsite videos are interspersed among the text sections with comprehension questions for teens to complete as they watch the videos and read the lesson material. After each unit, your student will watch a presentation emphasizing critical thinking skills to evaluate historical information. Here he will be looking at excerpts from primary source documents, textbooks, and images of historical artifacts. To strengthen your teen’s historical literacy, he will be asked to evaluate social media biases, advertisements, and even political cartoons.

This entirely-virtual course uses a combination of intriguing videos and engaging text with intensity options. Your teens can take US1 & US2 for high school credit. Or, if he prefers, he can opt to take the advanced track to prepare for the AP and CLEP tests.

Families will want to know that occasional historical artwork includes partial nudity.

Publisher Description
The mini-lectures for Dr. Jackson’s history courses aren’t filmed from behind a desk. Indeed, they’re entirely unbounded by the walls of a traditional classroom. By delivering lessons on-location all over the world, the Nomadic Professor brings the settings of history to life for the student, making for a more engaging online learning experience.

Being a good student is a learned skill. Take a Nomadic course to learn how to take notes, how to track key ideas, how to integrate key terms into your vocabulary, how to do research, how to summarize big ideas, how to tease implications out of nuanced language, how to come at an argument from more than one point of view, and more.

Amazing course!

We are only a few lessons in and are loving this course! My daughter hated US history. We have had to do it several times due to state regulations, and every time she was bored. Not anymore! This course is very interesting and is a different approach to the subject. You can do a basic course, but we have opted for the advanced track so she can take the CLEP.

There is also an optional social media type area that you can use to ask questions of the nomadic professor, get help, or discuss history. You can even set up a private area to invite a few students to work or discuss together.

Both my daughter and I have received emails offering help as we learn to navigate the course and reminding us that we can email for any questions or concerns we have. The students are encouraged to ask questions about what they are learning. They really seem to want to get the kids excited about history!

This is mostly student taught, but the parent is enrolled as well so you can review the lessons. There is a fair amount of parent involvement in assessing the daily guided notes which can be done on paper or as a fillable PDF and uploaded. Using the digital grading was a little confusing at first, but the social media area has videos to walk you through it. I also received emails with the walk through videos. Since the program is so new, only US history 1 & 2 are available now. But we plan to use 3&4 next year when they are available.

All in all, this is probably the best history course I’ve ever used. I wish I found it earlier in my homeschool journey!
