My Big Wimmelbook - At the Construction Site
Timberdoodle's Review
My Big Wimmelbook - At the Construction SiteLoosely translated as a book of abundance, Wimmelbooks are one-of-a-kind oversized board books. They provide endless opportunities for curious kids to discover, learn, and increase vocabulary.
Hugely popular in Germany and worldwide, here’s how Wimmelbooks work: At the beginning of each Wimmelbook, children are introduced to a cast of about a dozen characters such as Molly the mechanic, Sergio the boss, or Rusty the dog. As your child flips through the book, he will be looking for those characters hidden in plain sight among the hustle and bustle of their Wimmelworld. Each character has a different storyline that unfolds from page to page as he moves through the depicted scenes.
Preschoolers will love finding items and actions already familiar, like balloons, strollers, and pigs splashing in a mud puddle. They will engage with the Wimmelbooks as they can track and find the characters in each new display.
With practice, they will then be able to fabricate a storyline that fits the various scenes. Plus, there is so much going on in each spread that there is always one more story that can be told or a situation speculated on. For instance, why is there a submarine in the harbor, and what do you do when a bear threatens your camp?
Wimmelbooks give parents a rich opportunity to ask questions, discover what their child knows, and encourage them to add depth to their creative narrative. When we previewed Wimmelbooks with our three-year-old twins, the books provided hours of discussion about topics that had never occurred to us.
Develop your child’s cognitive skills of collecting clues, exploring, and telling stories with the Wimmelbooks.
