Timberdoodle's Review

Mind Benders Book 5

When I was about ten years old, my parents, with their six daughters, ages two to eleven, spent the summer driving a Dodge van from Panama to Oregon. Cars in those days did not have media centers. And if ours had a working radio or air conditioner, it was a well-guarded secret. But what we did have were several large tote bags of puzzle books.

On this trip, I was first introduced to this absorbing type of puzzle. These deductive thinking puzzles, Mind Benders, develop vital logic, reading comprehension, and mental organization skills necessary for solving real-life problems.

Levels spiral in difficulty within grade ranges. Your child will carefully analyze each Mind Benders story and its clues, identifying logical associations between people, places, and things. The key is to start with the most obvious associations, then deduce less obvious associations until everything finally fits together.

Includes step-by-step instructions and detailed answers. Levels spiral in difficulty within grade ranges.

    Satisfying

My 14 yr old son really enjoyed working through this book and book 6. He would often do a couple at a time in book 5. These are great for everyone really whether gifted or not. The directions are easy to understand and the puzzles became increasingly more difficult at a good pace. Being able to figure them out was satisfying.

    Great thinking skills book!

Mind Benders is a great way to improve a student's thinking skills. Clues are written in such a way as to require careful and logical thinking in order to solve the puzzles. This book is both challenging and enjoyable!

    Great for Accelerated Students!

My 11 year old daughter is an accelerated learner. Math and science concepts come very easy for her. She has always been very inquisitive about why things are the way they are. She loves the Mind Bender puzzles and looks forward to completing one every day after she finishes her school work. We will definitely be purchasing the book 6 as a supplement for the next school year!

    Makes Thinking Fun!

I have very fond memories of doing mind benders (way!) back when I was in fourth grade. I've thought about how much my kids would like them but hadn't seen them anywhere. I should have known that Timberdoodle would be the place to find them! These are like story problems on steroids. A simple story with multiple characters and options encourages logical thinking as a process of elimination is used to match and create a story. It is fun to be stumped and to work together as a family to find the solution. Each time we finish a book, the kids beg for another! A great math/comprehension supplement.
