Easy Grammar Grade 5 Teacher's Guide

Easy Grammar texts use the prepositional approach combined with effective strategies. This helps students understand Grammar, a tool for speaking and writing correctly.

Students are asked to delete prepositional phrases to help understand other concepts. In addition to grammar concepts, capitalization, punctuation, sentence types, phrases/clauses, and friendly/business letters are included. Ample practice worksheets are offered for each skill.

  • 53 prepositions introduced
  • Materials presented and reviewed throughout
  • Contains unit reviews, unit tests, cumulative reviews, and cumulative tests
  • Includes pre/post assessments
  • Reproducible worksheets
  • The writing section "teaches" how to write appositives, semicolon construction, and compound sentences

About Easy Grammar:

Most children dread grammar study because it is too complex. But Easy Grammar is just that, easy.

What sets Easy Grammar apart is the memorization of prepositions. This is the first step because once the student can identify and eliminate the prepositional phrases in a sentence, then determining the subject, verb, and other parts of speech is much easier.

If you lack an adequate grammar background and find even the preceding sentence intimidating, relax. The hardest part will be memorizing the prepositions. After that, everything falls into place.

Easy Grammar employs a virtually "hands-on" approach by deleting and marking certain words or phrases. The vocabulary has been kept simple, and, in most cases, the sentences are relatively short.

This logical, straightforward, no-nonsense grammar program is easy because each lesson focuses on just one topic. It is clear for the students to understand and provides a logical sequence of language arts skills. Additional strategies and tips that have helped the author's students are also provided. Lots of review helps to ensure comprehensive learning with excellent results.

Each Teacher's Manual has:

  • Teaching instructions
  • Worksheet pages that can be copied
  • An answer key on each facing page
  • Unit reviews
  • Cumulative reviews
  • Unit tests
  • Cumulative tests

You can also order workbooks if you don't want to copy the pages out of the Teacher's Manual, but our family has taken an even more miserly approach by using the Teacher's Manual with a piece of opaque construction paper to cover the answers on the facing page. We are strong proponents of independent study, which means each child receives a Teacher's Manual instead of a student workbook. They can read the teaching instructions, do the worksheets and correct their own work.

This option does not work if you have a couple of children who need the same level book. In that case, photocopying the worksheets from the Teacher's Manual or using the workbooks (which may not be photocopied) may be more cost-effective.

Note: Workbooks and Teacher Guides contain worksheets and instruction sheets found in the teacher text. Teacher Guides also include unit reviews, unit tests, cumulative reviews, answer keys, and teaching strategies.

    Great teaching method

This book is laid out well and easy to read and teach. I’d say the one downside is they duplicate all the pages needlessly... so the book should be half the size!

    Great Little Hints

Not only does it break it down easily for you to teach, but it gives you little hints and warnings. For example it might tell you if a lesson is a little harder than normal and to do it together out loud. I love these hints so that I can prepare for how I am going to handle the lesson with my child, prior to teaching it.

Easy Grammar Grade 5 Teacher's Guide

This book really dissects grammar and gets down to the nuts and bolts of building sentences and the responsibility of each word in a phrase.

    Easy as the Name Implies

My three oldest children have used or are currently using Easy Grammar. They don't complain about doing grammar with Easy Grammar. The assignments are short and the instructions are simple. After marking out all the prepositional phrases, it's easy to find the nouns, verbs, subjects, etc. It just makes sense!
