Timberdoodle's Review

Beautifully Illustrated Read-aloud

What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know is a beautifully illustrated read-aloud anthology. It offers your family what fellow parents, educators, and distinguished developmental psychologists consider the "core of knowledge" for kindergartners. The author's emphasis on reading aloud to your children and the wide variety of art, math, music, and science activities with your kindergartner make this a valuable resource for teaching parents.

A Very Helpful Resource

What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know is an excellent reference for everything from teaching handwriting to fun math projects you can do together. However, the best part for our review teams was the twenty nuggets of history in the middle of this book. Short stories about famous figures or simple synopses of USA history will help your child continue to develop the basics of a historical perspective and prepare him for jumping into a formal history program next year.

Note: Some of the read-aloud stories in What Your Kindergartner Needs to Know include fairy tales and magic.

so helpful

This book has been so helpful in knowing what I need to be teaching and if my student is on track. This takes the guess work out of it.

Nice For Guided Reading

I already knew I would enjoy this one after having used the preschool book in the same line. I just adore this book series. Sometimes it is nice to just have one book to pull stories and read alouds from rather than have a pile of picture books to keep track of. Personally, I would much rather each topic integrated throughout rather than split into chunks for each subject. It can be quite annoying to try to use bookmarks for each section. So instead, I just go through the book in order, even though that is a bit frustrating. However, I still will continue with this series since I appreciate how informative and easy to use they are and that it can be used as either a base or supplement to a homeschooling program.

Excellent

I really like that this book touches on many different areas and the sections are not so long or uninteresting that my kiddos loose interest. Well worth it.

Great Topics

My husband and kiddo would read through several sections per week. This was a great way for them to bond and learn.
