Horizon’s Kindergarten Math – My Daughter Loves It! by Modest Mom

    review by Modest Mom

We are two days into our school books, and Carrianna is already at lesson seven in her Horizon K math book. She adores it. I don’t hear any complaints from her when I say it is Math time! It is a great program and I highly recommend it!

    Colorful and Fun

My son loves this math book! I love how easy it is to teach. The teacher's manual tells me exactly what I need and what to do/say. There's also ideas for extra practice if needed. My son loves the colorful workbook, and he looks forward to our daily math activities. I have noticed, though, that even though this is geared towards Kindergarten, I find that it's a bit too easy for my son. He still loves it, though, so we skip some of the easier activities and focus more on the practice and things he needs to work on. We also move at a much faster pace with this. He'll likely finish well before the school year ends, so we'll move on to the next level. All in all, I highly recommend.

    great math course

We are about 2 months into this level of Horizons, and we are very please with it. It teaches a variety of math skills right from the beginning, and always keeps the concepts fresh by circling back to them in a later lesson.

    Colorful and fun

I wanted to try a new math curriculum and horizons did not disappoint! My son likes it better then the current program that we are using because it’s colorful and the activities are different. I like that we are learning money and time, which our current curriculum lacks. What I don’t love is the teachers manual. It’s not scripted, and doesn’t have a lot of ideas for teaching. This isn’t much of an issue for kindergarten, but it could be in the older grades.

    Horizons K

This is exactly what my Kindergartner needed for a successful start to homeschooling. This set is well thought out and pairs perfectly with the teachers guide. Each page is colorful and full of age appropriate illustrations. Very engaging for those that lose interest quickly or are easily distracted.

    Math Review

Although this is a complete math curriculum it was probably about half a year to a grade level above what our daughter was used to which led to some frustrations. It also suggested lots of math manipulatives that we did not readily have lying around the house. I can see how this program would be useful for those needing a more hands on approach or were advanced in math and for that reason I still gave it a 4 star review but it wasn't for us personally.
