Math-U-See Algebra 2 is typically a good fit for a student entering tenth grade; to find the Math-U-See level that best fits your child you can try the placement test here.

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 is a more rigorous algebra course that builds on the previous two studies. Besides reviewing and expanding topics taught in Algebra 1, the course covers advanced factoring, imaginary and complex numbers, conjugate numbers, the binomial theorem, the quadratic formula, motion problems, and other application problems.

Graphing includes extensive practice with conic sections and solving systems of equations visually and algebraically. Vectors are also introduced.

About Math-U-See Curriculum

For more than 20 years, Math-U-See's renowned mastery-based, multi-sensory, student-paced program has been the answer for countless families.

Math-U-See is a comprehensive K-12 math curriculum that uses manipulatives to illustrate and teach the concepts. If you regularly experience tears from your child whenever new mathematical topics are introduced, you need Math-U-See's systematic, precept-upon-precept math program.

This manipulative-based curriculum ensures your children will be able to fully understand each mathematical concept before moving on to another one.

Math-U-See is mastery-oriented, clear, to the point, and compelling with simple, uncluttered pages. In Math-U-See, new ideas are introduced step by step logically. At the same time, concepts that have been mastered are reviewed periodically.

The lessons are short, and there are many opportunities for multi-sensory experiences using videos and manipulatives.

Math-U-See books are organized into levels, not grades, so students can proceed at their own pace as they master concepts. This is particularly helpful for the child that is not performing at grade level but would rather not have that be a daily reminder.

Student workbooks are softcover, and the pages are perforated and punched so they can be removed, completed, and placed in binders if you choose.

Occasional fun exercises, like dot-to-dots and crossword puzzles, have been incorporated into the student workbooks. Student workbook pages are consumable, so each child will need their own copy.

Instruction manuals include complete answer keys with solutions for all problems. This is more a necessity at the upper levels than the lower ones.

The Math-U-See Manipulatives are more than a supplement. They are an integral part of the curriculum. Used from the Primer through Algebra 1 levels, the manipulatives build each concept from place value through polynomials through Integer Blocks, Fraction Overlays, and Algebra/Decimal Inserts.

Math-U-See does require a fair amount of parental involvement, especially in the younger grades. They have bent over backwards to make the lesson planning as painless as possible. But to get the most out of Math-U-See, parents should be prepared to plan and not start the lessons unprepared.

Math-U-See's teacher guide and supplemental DVD will teach you, the parent, more than just how to solve a math problem. They also show why the problem is solved in this manner and when to apply the concept.

Each lesson is demonstrated on the DVDs with such kind-hearted enthusiasm. I now understand why children line up at homeschool conferences to give the instructor, Steve Demme, a hug. DVDs can be played on a DVD player or computer; however, Windows 10 users will need to download a separate video player.

Math-U-See is laid out with step-by-step procedures for introducing, practicing, mastering, and reviewing concepts. How do you know when your child has 'mastered' a math concept? Not just when he gets the answers right but when he can teach the concept back to you, especially if he can do so with a word problem.

Math-U-See will show you how. So, if you want to give your child a rock-solid mathematical foundation, if your child is shaky on the basics, or just looking for a no-frills, common-sense program, you will be pleased with Math-U-See.

The Tools and Format You Need to Master Math
With simple, uncluttered pages, Math-U-See is mastery-oriented, clear, to the point, and effective. In Math-U-See, new ideas are introduced step by step in a logical order, while concepts that have been mastered are reviewed periodically.

About the Books
Math-U-See books are organized into levels, not grades, so students can proceed at their own pace as they master concepts. This is particularly helpful for the child that is not performing at grade level but would rather not have a daily reminder. Student workbooks and test booklets are softcover, and the pages are perforated and punched so they can be removed, completed, and placed in binders if you choose. Occasional fun exercises, like dot-to-dots and crossword puzzles have been incorporated into the student workbooks. Test booklets for each course have tests to be used at the end of each lesson, plus four unit tests and a final exam. Student workbook pages and tests are consumable, so each child will need their own copy. Instruction manuals, however, are hardcover books and should last the life of your teaching career. Complete answer keys with solutions are included for all problems at all levels, more a necessity at the upper levels than the lower ones.

Teacher Guide and Supplemental DVD
Math-U-See’s teacher guide and supplemental DVD will teach you more than just how to solve a math problem, they will also show why the problem is solved in this manner, and when to apply the concept. On the DVDs, each lesson is demonstrated with such kind-hearted enthusiasm, I now understand why children line up at homeschool conferences to give the instructor, Steve Demme, a hug. DVDs can be played on a DVD player or computer; however, Windows 10 users will need to download a separate video player.

For the Parents
While Math-U-See still requires a fair amount of parental involvement, in all the high-school-level books, your child will be able to work more independently. The instruction manual can be read directly by the student and he can watch the DVD presentation himself before beginning each lesson. The instruction manuals also include complete answers with step-by-step solutions for all the exercises and tests and there is extra instruction for the enrichment problems.

Digital Pack Included!
Every Math-U-See Algebra 2 set purchased from us will also include the new Digital Pack. Accessible through any internet browser, you will have lifetime access to Algebra 2 streaming instruction videos and Instruction Manual PDFs, and lesson and test solutions.

Great if you have the manipulatives

I think that would have worked out better for my son if he had the manipulatives to go along with the curriculum. He got to a point where we couldn’t move past a chapter because he didn’t understand the subject without the corresponding manipulatives. He is now doing ThinkWell and seems to understand it much better.

No other math program will do.

We have used Math-U-See to teach our 9 kids (age 8-30) for over 20 years. After tinkering with all the popular and “best” math programs we were introduced to this and nothing is simpler or better for my gifted and my special needs children. I have known people who didn’t like it because it taught so different from public school texts and they were worried their kids wouldn’t be able to manage in traditional classrooms. However, all my college kids (one a math major and one a physics major) not only “managed” but tested out of mandatory entry level classes and were approved to skip other “non negotiable” mandatory math classes when they entered college to start at calculus level classes their first year. I love the ease of preparation, the simplicity of the pages (not over stimulating for special needs) and the fact that everything is taught with reason and purpose.

    We love Math You See

We have been using math you see for years. We love the mastery approach and the ease of watching the dvd lessons and following along in the book. Great layout and we can move on once a concept is mastered instead of doing extra busy work.

    Love this Math

As a teacher, I have taught many different math curriculums. This is by far the best I have seen. Even my kids love doing math now.
