Great option if you like to customize your science or streamline it.

The book will guide you through everything you need for science and give you more ideas of things to do than you'll have time to carry out. It has 12 chapters, you can spend 3 weeks on each, or if you get a lot of science elsewhere, just do it every third week.
Each unit has the lesson for you, a science project, two optional Language Arts writing prompts (one creative writing and one scientific), a vocabulary worksheet, and a concept worksheet. Its all black and white, but if you want to look up colorful versions on the internet or interactive versions on educational websites, you'll know what to look for. There are two optional extension projects with each chapter one usually involves research, the internet and technology and the other is usually arts and crafts based. I'm super impressed by each project in the book, they are not repetitive at all. If you like to work on projects together as a family this book is a great resource for ideas. They are all different and interesting. The projects don't call for any hard to get supplies. Mostly stuff you would have on hand or could get at Walmart. The most unusual things I found were plaster (walmart craft section), a spinning top, magnets, and a sprinkler that rotates, but a rotating sprinkler can be found at a park or lots of pools have water features with moving pieces (sounds like a fun science day at the park or pool!) and you could probably make a top if you can't find one.
I think this book has sufficient material for the year, but you could easily add in things like youtube videos, science kits, library books if you like that kind of thing. Also if you really want to do your own explorations for science this book is a good option because it gives you all the topics to cover in a year and you can just add on from there.

Good, age level science

I got this book as a substitute for my 3rd grader's science curriculum. The Science of the Revolutionary was too intense for 3rd grade, and a very difficult read/review. This is so much more age and level appropriate. So glad we made the switch to this book.
