Veer Cruiser

A couple of years ago, our crew enjoyed an outing with seven children ages newborn to four years. As we wrangled unruly strollers and bulky diaper bags, we spotted a mom with an amazing wagon breeze by. We were so impressed with how effortlessly she maneuvered through the crowds, how happy and engaged her children appeared, and how practical her wagon looked that we knew we needed one.

That wagon was the Veer Cruiser, and the more we researched it, the more we knew it was made for our lifestyle. Often referred to as a hybrid stroller-wagon, the Veer Cruiser has a black matte airplane-grade aluminum frame with airless polyurethane wheels, so no flat tires – ever!

The telescoping handle can be adjusted for short people, tall people, and any height in between and also locks into place so you can pull or push the Veer Cruiser.

Why not just use a double stroller?

At about 10 months, most kids balk at being in a stroller. I suspect that is in part because of the limited visibility. With the Veer Cruiser, your children will have a 360-degree view, making zoo trips and everyday strolls that much more exciting.

Plus, most stroller seats are just not wide and long enough to accommodate an older, taller child. However, the bottom of the Veer Cruiser has a drop-down footwell to give older children more comfortable legroom.

Also, when home space is at a premium, the Veer Cruiser, when folded up, often has a smaller footprint than a double stroller.

Finally, the low sidewalls of the Veer Cruiser make it safe and easy for older kids to climb in and out.

What kinds of surfaces can the Veer Cruiser be used on?

Because the big all-terrain wheels are sturdy, the Veer Cruiser can easily handle nearly all surfaces. The front suspension allows for rugged off-roading from paved routes to unpaved mud trails, bark chips, gravel, and even snow.

At the same time, the rear wheel fenders protect your tiny passengers from mud and debris. The one exception is dry sand, which had mixed results. If yours is an active family living in an area where there are a lot of unpaved trails, this wagon is for you.

Is the Veer Cruiser only good for off-roading?

Absolutely not! While most double strollers are big and hard to maneuver, the front wheels on the Veer Cruiser swivel to give it better maneuverability and easier turning in tight spaces.

Moreover, because it is narrow enough to easily fit through front doors and gates, it is perfect for trips to the playground, farmer’s market, or a field trip with your homeschool group.

Plus, if you are a fan of theme parks, you will be happy to know that the Veer Cruiser is one of a very few wagons allowed inside because it can be pushed.

The Veer Cruiser has tons of optional accessories, from a toddler comfort seat to a sun and rain shade that can be purchased separately.

Super easy to assemble and collapse, the Veer Cruiser is simply the best for sturdiness, quality of materials and fabrics, and spot-on design.

And when the kid-toting years are behind you, the Veer Cruiser will still be going strong, ready to haul towels and treats down to the lake or potatoes and peaches from the farmers market. Each wagon comes with cup holders and a detachable snack and drinks tray.

Veer Retractable Canopy

Veer’s Retractable Canopy quickly and intuitively clips onto Cruiser’s frame and easily extends up and down. One or two can be attached above either seat. A peak-a-boo window allows you to see your precious cargo, and discreet, hidden magnets hold the window in the up position.

Veer Comfort Seat for Toddlers

Veer’s Comfort Seat for Toddlers easily inserts into the Cruiser’s standard seat to provide cushioned comfort and support. It is designed for children from 6 months up to 35 lbs. It includes a 5-point harness for safety. Soft, padded fabric creates an ultra-comfortable seat and headrest. Hidden magnets on the side wings ensure an easy, snug fit with the side walls. Two Comfort Seats can be used simultaneously (one on each seat). The Cruiser will fold when using one Toddler Seat. Comfort Seats can also be used with Veer’s Retractable Canopies.

Foldable Storage Basket

Designed to add even more cargo space to the Veer Cruiser, the lightweight aluminum and soft-sided storage basket mounts solidly into the Cruiser's two anchor points behind the rear seat. It folds for easy transport or for storage no need to remove it. It is removable and machine washable. The zippered hood doubles the capacity by covering gear, groceries, cooler, and other bulky items.

Your wallet will cry but you get what you pay for

Starting a family and my husband has mostly been a "that's nice dear" type of man when I show him baby supplies. Not so when I showed him this baby. After wincing at the price his eyes lit up like a kid on Christmas. This is the ultimate "Dad stroller." Men LOVE this thing. Ever since it came in the mail he eyes it like a new Ferrari parked in a custom garage. It's the first thing he shows his Dad friends and THEY all go nuts over it. And their adoration is well deserved. I'm not a dude but I too am already in love with my hybrid. Quick breakdown of pros and cons.

Pros:

1. The best of both worlds. This thing is the quintessential hybrid: It takes the safe coziness of a stroller and combines it with the space and functionality of a wagon and made them into the perfect love child of comfort and practicality. The Cruiser has space in spades, especially if you get that storage basket add on. Tight mesh pockets on the sides, lots of leg room for littles, and there's a nap system you can purchase on another site that makes this thing useful from birth to Kindergarten and beyond.

2. Versatile: Did I mention the space of this thing? You can put an infant in the nap system. Two young ones in the seats. There's a car seat add on, on a different site, so you can put a baby AND a young one in it. You can put your groceries, supplies and backpacking extras in here. Like camping? You'll love this thing. Neither wind, nor rain, nor snow slows this thing down. Rocks, dirt trails, this navigates it like a cake walk. But it's also fantastic for suburb dwellers as it manages tight corners, sidewalks and streets with ease.

3. Kids like it more: Yeah this sounds judgmental. But it's true! We've all seen those kids straining against their stroller, slumped like a blob, screaming blue murder as they fight the restraints and confines of their stroller. I was apparently that kid when I was at that age. Best I can figure is strollers are tight, constrained and by golly you can't SEE anything when you're sitting in one. This open system allows children an almost 360 point of view, lots of leg room and a comfy seat with plenty of space to stretch out and eat snacks. My mom friends all retire their strollers well before their kids 3rd birthday. With the Veer you'll be using this thing for YEARS after that and then some. After all once kids are grown why do you need a stroller? Well, after the kids outgrow the VEER this thing is still useful for carrying supplies, going camping and just DOING stuff.

4. Durable: This is the Humvee of stroller wagons. "Weak", "Delicate" and "Dainty" are words that do not exist in the Veer's dictionary. This thing is STURDY. It is built to last you a LONG time and survive the ups, downs, bumps and bruises of active outdoor life. Looks are not deceiving. It's as strong as it looks and then some. A common complaint of many strollers are wheel blowouts (for air filled ones) or wheels that break or get loose easily. Worry no more friends! You'll never have to worry about that problem ever again if you get this thing. The wheels are not inflatable so you don't have to worry about them popping, and they grip any terrain with all the tenacity and strength of a bulldog.

5. Easy to clean: This is a MUST for a busy mom like me. I don't have time to constantly wash stuff, rub stains out of fabric and don't want to deal with a stinky stroller because kids constantly spill food, drink and bodily fluids everywhere. This thing can be literally hosed off or have a quick wipe down and it's ship shape again.

6. Ease of use: I am super clumsy and one of those people for whom IKEA presents a challenge. I hate most strollers because I just can't get the hang of folding them, unfolding them, assembling them...well I had no problems putting the Cruiser together out of the box AND it's super easy to learn how to fold and then unfold. If I can do it, anyone can. It's simpleton proof.

7. Looks: Call me shallow but I like things that aren't just functional but look great. You're going to get looks and compliments when you go out with this thing, every time.

Cons:

1. Cost: If you want to lose weight this thing is fantastic for making your wallet shed some pounds. Just the stroller itself plus the add-ons...cheap it isn't. But this is one of those items you will buy exactly once and then use it for a decade or two, due to its sheer usefulness and durability. For me, that's preferable to saving a few hundred to have a stroller that won't be nearly as tough, useful or long lived that my kids won't like as much.

2. Bulk: Calling this thing "portable" is definitely stretching the truth. It is not a dinky little thing. You can absolutely fold it up, but it's still going to take up some room and make its presence known. It tips the scales at 30 lbs. You need to have a bit of muscle to move it from car to ground to garage. It's going to take up the space in your trunk.

Expensively Awesome!

This thing is really expensive - like crazy expensive - but my kids and I love it. I have an 8 year old and a 1 year old and I put them both in there and my 8 year old will read to my one year old, I'll get some exercise, and everyone gets some fresh air. Are there alternatives? yep! Will they work just as well? Maybe? We use it mostly at home, in fact, I store it in my foyer these days in snowy PA. It goes over gravel pretty easily, it goes up steps :). I wouldn't call it 'portable' and it is really big and bulky. If you think you'll get a lot of use out of it, and can stomach the price tag, give it a try - we really do love it!
