Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1

Most parents know that a child who only memorizes math facts without really understanding math will find progressively complex concepts more and more difficult to understand. But what they erroneously think is that such problems arise about the time a child is memorizing the multiplication table. Not so.

Reading is a necessary skill that is tightly woven throughout our entire day. On the other hand, math tends to be a more sporadic subject, essential when you need it and then quickly set aside. That is why it is imperative that a child can reason his way through any mathematical problem.

Award-winning Mathematical Reasoning Beginning 1 is a great place to start. With 236 pages of quick, straightforward problems to build mathematical reasoning skills in preschool students, these highly motivational activities will take your child beyond mere drill work by using step-by-step, discussion-based problem-solving. Concepts spiral gradually so that children do not forget as they go. The concepts are written to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards. Non-reproducible.

Good workbook for math

It's not my sons favorite, but that is a reflection of him, NOT the book. The colors are pretty, the illustrations well done and I really like that there is no drill work in the book (it would make already challenging workbook time impossible for my easily bored son). Every page is something new and different.

My point is, if you have a child like mine who HATES workbooks, this is as good as it's going to get for a preschooler and for that, I give it 4.5 stars out of 5. I only knock half a star because the pages are super thin and that can lead to easily being ripped or torn, but it's such a minor complaint I'd actually make it 4.75 stars out of 5. Absolutely great math workbook.

Great

It is a very well thought out book that I enjoy working through with my daughter. While it certainly isn't her favorite, it is an easy to understand implementation of math for early learners. We tend to take it out twice a week doing a few pages each time rather than every day.
