Language Smarts Level D Grade 3

Language Smarts is a complete language arts curriculum that will improve your student’s reading, writing, spelling, punctuation, and grammar skills.

However, unlike a traditional workbook, Language Smarts also employs both convergent and divergent thinking in its exercises. Perfect for the child who prefers to work independently, Language Smarts pages are brightly-colored and contain enough white space to feel easily doable.

Language Smarts proves that language arts do not have to be the predictably intensive, tedious, and repetitive activities found in most traditional language arts workbooks. Instead, Language Smarts uses rhymes and riddles, editing challenges, mind-benders, sequencing, and more. The simple, colorful exercises can make this the year your child enjoys language arts.

Alot of information

I feel the content is great but in order to finish it for the year we have to do like 8 pages a week and its a lot for my daughter.

Fun way to practice

This is a fun way to practice the parts of language with a quick daily exercise. We do this as morning work with a page or two a day.

Perhaps a Supplemental Workbook

Calling this a "full Language Arts curriculum" is very generous. I would use this at most as a supplemental workbook for additional practice. Looking at the other reviews, I may be in the minority, but I will not be ordering the next level and I would not recommended using this as your only language arts material.

The instructions provided are pretty minimal and some concepts are not fully explained. For example, when discussing adverbs the book says that they usually end in -ly and proceeds to have the student circle example adverbs in a few sentences. Without further discussing how adverbs can also encompass "when" words relating to time, the next page expects the student to recognize words such as "tomorrow" and "late" as adverbs as well. This is pretty consistent for the level of explanation and prese tation throughout the book. Honestly, really poorly done.

Top-Notch product

All the books from Critical Thinking Co. are top-notch products! I have used the Language Smarts books for my oldest from Level A to E and now I am doing the same with my 2nd child. Great for wiggly kids & the teacher these books are open & go with fun elements! Full color & easy to grade.

Glad I Did

I always customize my kits, and when I bought the 3rd grade kit last year I almost removed this one because I didn't think it was really necessary. However, I am very glad I kept it in there! It covers such a wide array of English/Language Arts topics and was a great way to start getting into grammar. It usually dedicates 2 to 5 pages to each topic depending, and has a brief explanation of the topic or principle before they get started.
It has helped a lot with writing too - when we try to take on writing assignments my kids tend to get overwhelmed easily, but the many sentence exercises in this book have built their confidence in building correct, detailed, GOOD sentences, so small writing assignments are much more manageable!
Also easy to skip over the sections you know they are good on and just focus on what you know they need. Great for independent work too - they don't usually need my help with any of it. :)
