A Reason for Handwriting Level B Student Worktext begins with 10 lessons reviewing manuscript letter formation. After completing the review, the worktext proceeds to 30 weekly lessons, providing 10-15 minutes of daily practice.
On days one to three, students write letters and words from the week's Scripture verse. On day four, students transcribe the entire verse on a piece of practice paper.
On the final day, students select a Border Sheet from the back of the book and write the week's Scripture verse in their best handwriting. They can then use their creativity to color the design on their Border Sheet.
About the A Reason for Handwriting Series
Handwriting, especially in this era of word processors, is a relatively low priority compared to other subjects. However, if you are going to make handwriting a part of your curriculum, here is something to think about.
Handwriting is a learned motor skill requiring regular practice. Doesn't it seem that if your child is going to labor over something with his mind and hands, he should also engage his heart? A Reason for Handwriting does all three.
With each 10- to 15-minute daily lesson built around Bible verses, the content is not only instructional but also inspirational. Plus, at the end of each week, your children will be given the opportunity to apply excellence to their work as they copy their verse-of-the-week onto their choice of "Scripture Border Sheets." When done with care, these completed sheets are worth sharing with friends and family.
A Reason for handwriting uses a Living Bible paraphrase for its verses. For those dyed-in-the-wool KJV-only families, let me suggest that even this Scriptural rendition is better for your child to toil over than any trivial sentence about the environment, sports events, or popular media standard in other handwriting programs. Each workbook is full color.
Verses are taken from the Gospels. Does NOT include transition or cursive lessons.
NOTE: The Transition Book will replace either book B or C. The Transition Book includes extra exercises for both manuscript and cursive. If your second-grader is ready for cursive, then you should use The Transition Book and follow it with book C. If your third-grader needs more work on manuscript before tackling cursive, use The Transition Book and then follow with book D.

We used this for handwriting and Bible. We spent the week memorizing and discussing the Bible verse for that week, and he got to practice his handwriting too! My son did complain about the repetitive nature of the handwriting practice and didn't want to finish all of the lines. He just wanted to trace the words/letters at the beginning. I do wish they would practice words from that week's Bible verse all week though instead of random words.
This is our 3rd year using this curriculum series. It has been a great series and my daughter has enjoyed it until the last half of this year. She is just tired of the repetition. We will be learning cursive next year so we will use cursive logic for that and may try another handwriting curriculum but this one has been so great that I will come back to it if her cursive needs help. At our tutorial the teacher says my daughter has the neatest handwriting of all the kids that range 5yrs - 12 yrs. She is left handed and struggles sometimes with the binding but that is most books.
I have 2 right handed and 2 left handed children. This has been a good match for us. I tried to use without the teacher's manual for the first child and it was not as effective that way.
I really don't do handwriting that much on lines. I would really say that you could not put the lines there. I'm used to writing free. Otherwise, everything is nice. It is teaching me to write straight and neat.
We have been using this for almost a year now and this is the first year my son has not complained about handwriting! It is easy for the student to do independently and not boring or painful. The daily lessons are manageable while still being effective and each day being different helps keep it interesting, but not confusing. My older child uses their grade book and we have already purchased the appropriate grade levels for next year, too!
