Excellent supplement!

We purchased US History Detective to supplement our history curriculum, and we’ve really been enjoying it! My 8th grader is using it. He can do it independently, but I enjoy reading it with him to brush up on my history skills. I really like how the information is chunked together. The questions at the end of each lesson really help solidify learning as well.

My student and I both recommend US History Detective 1 & 2 as great backbone texts for US history. My student enjoyed being able to complete all assignments independently. Although, we chose to have discussions after each lesson while grading his work. As a typical 9th grade student, my son enjoyed the concise lessons and I appreciated that the review questions asked the student to include which sentence(s) supported the answers. I did feel the need to include other resources to round-out our high school level US history class (primary source documents and occasional short unit studies). We chose to do only one year of US history, so we used both books 1 and 2 in a single course, choosing to exclude some of the bonus assignments and continuing slightly past our normal schoolyear time frame. Overall, this title worked very well for us.
