Have I Got a Story For You!

Have I Got A Story For You! is a one-of-a-kind multi-child art history course that is part story, part adventure, part art studio, and 100% fun! Used for 13 years at a prominent college preparatory school, Have I Got A Story For You! is now available to home educators via high-quality videos.

With Have I Got A Story For You!, your students will study different art eras. They will be introduced to various artists, hear about cultural events specific to that era and examine masterpieces for style or techniques that make them unique. An animated cartooned drop of paint named Gasfy adds an element of light-heartedness to each episode’s journey.

Have I Got A Story For You! consists of twelve 20-30 minutes videos with corresponding lesson plans. Throughout each series, three artists are introduced. Students will analyze the masterpieces of these prominent artists and discuss how their culture, circumstances, and family influenced their art and, in some cases, how the artwork influenced the culture. And for those who blush at nudity in art, Have I Got A Story For You! is entirely G-rated. This means all nudity has been pixelated out; quite a feat, especially for the Renaissance semester!

Corresponding to each video are detailed lesson plans that include critical thinking questions to engage your students in discussion and generate higher-order thinking skills. The lesson plans also suggest cross-curricular age-specific activities in the areas of writing and vocabulary. As a bonus, some lesson plans include geography, history, and even science assignments.

But what your children will love most are the well-chosen art activities. Several are suggested for each unit, each selected to enhance your child’s retention of the lecture material. Most art activities will take about 30 minutes to complete.

Have I Got A Story For You! is aimed at 1st-8th grade students, so it is the perfect choice for families teaching multiple-age children. Because the speaker is so engaging and the art projects gratifying to do, I suspect that the age range could even be expanded a year or two on each side.

The series was written as a semester study; however, the curriculum has the flexibility to be used in a monthly homeschool co-op or summer art camp.

    Mixed feelings

I love the videos and that they were sent to us. I know they were trying to keep cost down for the consumer but I did feel I needed a printed copy of the curriculum.

    Great Videos

We love these videos. They are well made and we have learned a lot. We completed the Renaissance lessons. My child is excited to go to art museums because of these videos.

    Not a fan

I'm struggling with multiple aspects of this product. First and foremost, from a nonreligious household (this product was in the nonreligious kit), these videos are difficult for my daughter because she has to try to understand the history while also having a LOT of religion spoken to her, which, for her, is completely foreign. I completely understand that historical art has a heavy religious base but for a nonreligious 7-year-old, this just isn't easy. Furthermore, I don't find the host engaging enough. We get to the end of a video and I don't feel as though she's gotten enough out of it. Finally, $150 for 12 videos is a bit of a stretch, especially given the production value. All in all, this simply isn't for our family.

    Fun

These art lessons are fun to watch. The lesson plans are a little harder to follow. The questions are good and thoughtful but the activities are hard to know what to do.
