What Your Preschooler Needs to Know

What Your Preschooler Needs to Know is a beautifully illustrated read-aloud anthology. It offers your family what fellow parents, educators, and distinguished developmental psychologists consider the "core of knowledge" for preschoolers.

Presented in a read-aloud format to help your child get ready for Kindergarten, with sections for each subject, including:

  • History: This down-to-earth introduction to American history has dynamic illustrations, powerful stories, and a handful of simple projects you and your child can enjoy together.
  • Science: What Your Preschooler Needs to Know contains spot-on questions and stunning photos. These are designed to encourage your child to observe and experience the wonder of animals and the physical properties of light, air, and water.
  • Music: Children love songs, especially activity songs, so What Your Preschooler Needs to Know includes the classics you grew up with and some new ones to boot.
  • Favorite Poems and Rhymes: Rhymes are a critical pre-reading skill. What Your Preschooler Needs to Know includes delightfully illustrated poems, limericks, tongue twisters, and "fingerplay" verses that you and your child can perform together.
  • Visual Arts: Vibrant, full-color reproductions of all sorts of art will allow you to talk about shapes, colors, different styles, and art history.
  • Beloved Stories and Fables: Read-aloud stories might be your child's favorite section. But families differ in their tastes in literature, so be sure to pre-read the stories to make sure they are aligned with your family's values.

In addition, What Your Preschooler Needs to Know contains valuable sidebars throughout the book suggesting questions to ask and games to play to deepen your preschooler's learning experience. There's also an appendix for additional resources at the end of the book. What Your Preschooler Needs to Know contains many opportunities to promote curiosity and kindle a love of learning in your child.

    Wonderful collection

This little collection is great and covers a a lot of ground for a bitty learner. It is organized by focus area too so that it nice in order to keep track of what’s been read and change topics to keep it interesting. The only section that seems a bit intense for a little one is the history/artsection. It just has some pretty specific info and topics that seem a little in depth for a preschooler. Otherwise wonderful and enjoyable.

    Excellent Resource for 3 to 5 year-olds

While we enjoyed this book tremendously, I found myself wishing that it had been included in the preschool kit. Many of the poems, songs and stories are better suited for preschoolers, whereas the history, science and art seemed conceptually more appropriate for pre-K. Since this book straddles these age ranges, we would have preferred to receive it on the early end and grow into it.

    loved this book

we used this book before bed rather than during the day, then added another book or two before he fell asleep. We loved the poems and stories. The illustrations are beautiful!

    Great Resource

This has a lot of really cool educational stuff for little ones. I have really enjoyed using this in our curriculum. Teaches me something new somedays. Really recommend using this book for your 4 to 5 year olds. Even my 8 year old enjoys listening to the information and nursery rhymes and songs.
