Designed for hands-on learning, Studiostone Alabaster Polar Bear carving kit introduces your child to the art of stone carving. It begins with beautiful, soft-white alabaster. Your child will enjoy the challenge of changing that rough alabaster figure into a more detailed, lushly-polished sculpture. The step-by-step picture-based instructions are easy to follow and will soon have your child carving, sanding, and polishing his very own impressive stone animal sculpture. Each Studiostone Alabaster Polar Bear carving kit comes with everything your child will need to complete his fist-sized sculpture: a hand-cut alabaster shape, a child-safe carving file, 2 grades of sandpaper, polishing wax, and a tiny buffing cloth.

A Few Helpful Tips:
1. To avoid stone dust as you carve, keep your stone wet. If you cannot keep the stone wet, you may be more comfortable wearing a dust mask.
2. Artists suggest spending extra time making your animal round. A few additional minutes spent rounding the body make a huge difference in the appearance at the end. If you have a child impatient to push on, he can always do some more detailed work and then go back to rounding the body before moving on to sanding the sculpture.
3. When your student waxes his carving, be sure to get the excess wax off before it dries. To get the highest gloss possible, let the waxed stone cool completely before buffing. If your child is in a hurry to complete his project, you can place the carving in the refrigerator for a few moments, then buff to an attractive sheen.

Studiostone Creative has a vision that anyone ages 8 to 99 should be able to carve stone with the right tools and instructions. It all began in Oliver’s sculpture studio when one day an elementary school teacher called, asking if he would come to teach the students stone carving. Until that point, he had taught only adults to carve with large blocks of stone and big tools in a 20-hour course.

So the artist became the entrepreneur out to answer the question… “Can anyone create a truly amazing stone sculpture in 90 minutes with no previous experience?”

After much trial and development, the 90-minute in-school stone carving program was introduced with great success. Currently, Studiostone Creative teaches students the thrill of transforming stone into a fully-finished sculpture. We teach 10,000 students every year in schools. With the program up and running, parents began asking for something similar for home use. Thus the Soapstone carving Kit was born.

It includes a premium hand-cut stone, with custom-designed tools, supplies, and easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions. Every element of the process is designed to combine fun, learning, and creativity.
